DIY Family Friday Week #4

This week's DIY Family Friday is a fun recipe that will have your kids begging for more! Puppy Chow!
9 cups Rice Chex®, Corn Chex® or Chocolate Chex® cereal (or combination)
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup peanut butter
1/4 cup butter or margarine
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 1/2 cups powdered sugar

Measure cereal into a large mixing bowl.

In a microwavable bowl mix chocolate chips, peanut butter and butter. Place in the microwave uncovered on High for 1 minute. Remove the mixture and stir.

Microwave about 30 seconds longer or until mixture can be stirred smooth.

Stir in vanilla.

Pour mixture over cereal, stirring until evenly coated.

Spread a large piece of waxed paper on your counter top. It helps to put a heavy object on the edges to keep the paper from rolling up.

Pour the cereal mixture into 2-gallon ziploc bag or an empty ice cream bucket will work too!

Add powdered sugar. Seal bag or place lid on the ice cream bucket and shake until well coated.

Spread the treat onto the waxed paper and wait impatiently for it to cool. Burn your mouth trying to sneak a taste before the kids wake up from their naps.

If there is any left after your little ones have attacked it, store in airtight container in refrigerator.

Be prepared to fall madly in love and don't expect this treat to make it through the weekend!

DIY Family Friday Week #3

Welcome back to DIY Family Friday! Doesn't it feel like this week just flew by? It's already week 3 of our new series! What do you think so far?

It sure would be nice if the snow would let up so we could all get outside to play and burn off some energy! This week's DIY craft comes from one of my favorite decorating and kids blog, Under the Sycamore. Not only does Ashley have amazing craft ideas, she is an amazing photographer that shares her photography tips & tricks along the way.

Mod Podge
Fun, Pretty Papers
{You could use wrapping, scrapbook paper or tissue paper}

DIY Family Friday

Welcome to week 2 of DIY Family Fridays! This week we're going to make homemade play doh!  This is a fun, easy project that should keep your little ones busy for a while. You probably have all of the required supplies except for alum powder.You should be able to find it in the spice aisle.

{Photo from Homemade by Jill via Skip to my Lou}

 Homemade Play Doh Recipe
1 Cup Flour
1/2 cup Salt
2 Teaspoons Cream of Tarter
1 cup Warm Water
1 Tablespoon Oil
Liquid or Gel Food Coloring or Kool-Aid

Combine flour, salt and cream of tarter in a sauce pan. Gradually add the water and oil. Cook over low/medium heat stirring constantly. Continue to stir. Lumps will form but eventually it will become smoother in consistency. Remove from heat.

Let cool until you can safely handle the dough. Place the dough on the counter and knead it into a ball. Break off balls depending on how many colors you and your little one would like. Flatten the play doh slightly, add a few drops of color to each ball and continue to fold the dough onto itself while mixing in the food coloring or kool aid. {A note from the FRC play doh veterans: Grape kool-aid will make the play doh brown! Good to know!}

If you would like a darker colored play doh, add additional drops of play doh.  Have fun making critters, towers, buildings and cars! To store the play doh, place it in a jar or storage container and refrigerate!
