DIY Family Friday Week #12

This week's project comes to us straight from the fabulous Becky Higgins Blog. If you're not familiar with Becky, I highly recommend checking her out. She has awesome free printables on her website along with the amazing Project Life, which she has generously agreed to donate to our Premiere Night silent auction! (July 27, 2011 - don't forget!)

After seeing her hand print tradition, I decided that it would be a perfect DIY project for our FRC families. It's simple and you'll look back year after year and be amazed at how big your kids have gotten!

Acrylic paint in colors of your choice
Square stretched canvas
Photo easel (optional)

Michael's is a great place to pick all of these items up inexpensively!
Paint canvas the color of your choice. After the paint has dried completely, chose a contrasting paint and paint your little one's hand completely. Have your child spread their fingers apart as much as they can and then place their hand palm down on the canvas. Hold for approximately 3-5 seconds and on the count of 3 quickly pull the child's hand directly up from the canvas.

You should be left with a sweet little hand print! After the art work has dried, flip the canvas over and write your child's name, date the print was made and age on the back.

DIY Family Friday Week #11

This week's DIY Family Friday is a yummy recipe for mud pie! The timing seems to be right with all the rain that is in the forecast!
 Instant chocolate pudding
Oreo cookies
Gummy worms
Clear punch cups
Mix instant chocolate pudding according to the directions on the package. The children help add the dirt and rain (pudding & milk) to make mud. Crush 2 Oreos per punch cup in a ziplock bag.

Layer Oreos, gummy worms and pudding in the punch cups. Enjoy!

May 1-7 is Children’s Mental Health Awareness week.

Did you know that 1 in 5 children have a mental health disorder?  Those children who appear healthy on the outside suffer mental health problems on the inside.

Did you know 75-80% of children and youth in need of mental health services do not receive them?  Treatment of mental health disorders can prevent school drop out, substance use, juvenile justice involvement and homelessness.

May 1-7 is Children’s Mental Health Awareness week.  If you have questions about mental health issues or need assistance in finding mental health services for your child, contact our MATCh program at 715-552-1365 or match@frcec.org
